Ride-hailing company Bolt has unveiled a new initiative in Kenya: The Bolt Accelerator Program. This program empowers Bolt drivers, riders, and even their family members to turn their ideas into reality.

Investing in Sustainable Mobility

Bolt is allocating €20,000 (around Kshs 2.92 million) in seed funding to support business plans that align with creating sustainable transportation solutions in African cities. The goal is to prioritize the well-being of citizens, promote environmental responsibility, and ensure accessible mobility for all.

Mentorship and Training

The program is co-organized with The Nest Innovation Park, which provides a network of mentors to guide participants in developing their business plans. This initiative goes beyond just financial support. As Caroline Wanjihia, Bolt’s Regional Director of Rides for Africa, highlighted, “We hope this program will take it a step further and help make a real difference to local communities.”

Building on the program’s success in Nigeria, Bolt aims to empower Kenyan innovators to address pressing urban challenges and contribute to economic growth. Shortlisted participants will receive training in business development and career advancement. The top contenders will benefit from additional training with experienced entrepreneurs and in-person mentoring sessions.

Pitching for Success

Following a dedicated “Business Pitch Day” in June, the top 10 business ideas will be awarded €2,000 (over Kshs 290,000) each in seed funding, along with continued mentorship.

Join the Movement

The Bolt Accelerator Program is open to anyone with a great idea –– drivers, riders, and even their families can participate. Applications closes 4th of April and are to be submitted through the Bolt Accelerator Program portal here

This program signifies Bolt’s commitment to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship within its Kenyan community, while simultaneously working towards a more sustainable future for African cities.
